A Message from Robert Sutter, Ed. D, Principal of John Hill School

Welcome to the John Hill School Web Page!  We are glad you’ve taken time to learn about us.  We at John Hill School, share a mission of commitment to a philosophy which creates an environment in which students are encouraged to develop to their full potential.

The staff at John Hill School is dedicated to providing a wonderful educational experience for all of our students.  We try to develop and foster independent learning for our students in a loving atmosphere which makes children feel welcomed.  Additionally, our staff is committed to  modeling professionalism, a positive attitude, a respect towards each other, and a respect for the learning process.

The faculty at John Hill School continuously plans and creates both engaging and creative lessons which lead to an inviting and exciting classroom environment with differentiated instruction at each grade level.  The staff understands the importance of meeting each individual student’s needs and individual strengths.  Moreover, the JHS staff encourages each student to “exceed expectations.”

Additionally, the John Hill School faculty is proud of and committed to celebrating and highlighting our student body’s rich geographic and cultural diversity.  Students learn a great deal about themselves, each other, their community and their world.

Students range from grades four through six, and we generally keep class size to the upper teens to low twenties.  Our teachers focus on the core subjects of reading, writing, mathematics, science and social studies.  The John Hill staff provides quality reading instruction for each child through novel studies and writing is emphasized on a daily basis through our “Strategies For Writers” program.

We also develop in our students a deep understanding of mathematics through a problem-solving approach using manipulatives and investigations.  Our students also undergo daily instruction in the content areas of science and social studies.  Instruction in these content areas combines technology, exploring, researching and experimental learning.  The staff at John Hill School does an excellent job integrating science and social studies with math and language arts (i.e. cross content).

Students participate in a variety of “special classes” including P.E., Health, Art, Music, Computers, Spanish and Library.  Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth grade students have the unique opportunity to participate in both the choir and the band.  Our aim is to develop students who will be ready to join our “top notch” secondary school musical program.

We pride ourselves on our communication with parents and the community at large.  As your child grows it will become increasingly important to maintain strong communication ties between home and school.  Please remain as active and involved in your child’s life as you can and I encourage you to speak with your child’s teachers on a regular basis!  Anytime you feel a problem or concern still exists after an initial conversation with a teacher, feel free to give me a call.  I am available anytime to answer your questions.

Finally, John Hill School is fortunate to enjoy strong parent and community support.  The Parent Teacher Organization organizes many fundraisers and activities which are a tremendous benefit to both our staff and our students.  Please, if you are a current member of the Boonton Community, I urge you to consider joining the PTA; it truly is a wonderful organization.

In closing, I hope you find your visit here to be worthwhile and that you are able to find answers to the questions you may have about our school.  We will continue to maintain our site to provide you with the latest and most accurate information about our school.  We encourage your questions and comments.
