Boonton PTA Receives National 2017 STEM + Families Science Grant
The National PTA Association recently announced that the Boonton PTA is a recipient of the 2017 STEM and Families Science Grant! The grant, sponsored by Bayer, provides funds and materials to host a STEM and Families Festival event. The Boonton PTA is one of 30 grant winners chosen from more than 600 applications and the only recipient in New Jersey.
The grant application was written and submitted by Mrs. Carrie Bazar, school parent and PTA member, with input from John Hill School science teacher Ms. Jamie McCue. Mrs. Bazar understands well the value of STEM. She is part of a STEM college-wide committee in her position as a Career Counselor. She offered, “The Family STEM Festival is a fantastic opportunity for all of our students and their families to access and explore STEM in a fun environment together, where hopefully they will be inspired and empowered to build upon their curiosity and creative problem solving in the classrooms and beyond!”
The grant awards the Boonton PTA with a $1,000 and a materials pack ($400 value) to host the Science Festival (spring date to be announced). Additional support includes a training webinar, planning guides and partnering with local Bayer staff to plan a successful event. The PTA will be sharing additional details about the upcoming event with the school community.
