Coach Bongo Named NFHSCA New Jersey State Coach of the Year

On Monday, April 30 the Boonton Board of Education recognized Boonton High School's Mr. Bob Bongo for being named the 2017 National Federation of High School Coaches (NFHSCA) New Jersey State Coach of the Year and the 2017 NFHSCA Northeast Sectional Coach of the Year. The Northeast Section includes the states of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey and New York, Rhode Island and Vermont. 

Mr. Bongo, who teaches Social Studies at BHS, has been the head coach for both the boys and girls Track & Field and Cross Country teams at the school for the past 34 years. He has accumulated 504 combined boys and girls Cross County victories over his career. Over the years, he has coached many individual conference, county and state champions and his teams have won multiple conferences, county and state sectional titles. In Spring 2017, the Boys’ track team won the 2017 Group 1 State Championship! Additionally, for the past 9 years he has helped BHS host the Morris County Track & Field Championships.
