The New Jersey Governor’s Educator of the Year (NJ GEOY) and Service Professional of the Year programs recognize exceptional educators and staff members who go above and beyond to support students and strengthen school communities. These honors celebrate dedication, professionalism, and a commitment to creating positive, inclusive learning environments, highlighting the important role these individuals play in helping all students succeed.

This year, Ms. Comer (7th Grade Social Studies  Teacher) and Ms. Stella (Paraprofessional) were awarded these honors at John Hill School.  They were celebrated at Monday's BOE meeting.

Below are excerpts from the speech that evening...

Ms. Comer is incredibly deserving of this prestigious honor. She works tirelessly at her craft, bringing history and geography to life through engaging lessons and interactive storytelling that truly captivate her students. Her patient, calm, and laid back personality makes her a favorite among students, and it’s no surprise that they genuinely enjoy being in her class. They don’t just show up, they want to be there, eager to learn more about the world and its history.  But Ms. Comer’s impact goes far beyond the classroom. She is a leader within John Hill School, heading the Students for Change club, where she teaches students not only academic skills, but also how to be kind, compassionate, and responsible people who help others. She has also served as the director of our town summer camp, building strong relationships with students that extend well beyond the middle school years.

Mrs. Stella has been nothing short of exceptional as a paraprofessional at John Hill School. She is the consummate professional always putting the needs of children first and doing what is best for the students of Boonton. She is a tireless hard worker who never shies away from challenges. No matter the situation or the student need, Mrs. Stella gives her all, every single day.  Her easygoing personality, remarkable patience, and genuine kindness make her an absolute joy to work with. The students adore her, and the staff deeply respect and value her as a team player. She consistently goes above and beyond her daily paraprofessional duties, providing guidance, encouragement, and support to help students succeed academically and socially.
