What is AVID?

  • AVID, Advancement VIA Individual Determination, is a nationwide, four-year program that is designed to help students in the academic middle prepare for and succeed in high school and college. With individual support by trained faculty, students will pursue a challenging and rigorous curriculum while investigating careers and colleges, learning more effective study strategies, and working collaboratively with like-minded peers. It is a program designed and driven by the WICOR (Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, Reading) method to help students who have a willingness to learn and work hard toward four-year college eligibility.

What is the AVID Elective?

  • The AVID Elective Class is designed around rigorous standards to prepare students for college by teaching them study and organizational skills. Students receive additional support through specialized tutoring and lessons. Active participation is a requirement; guest speakers, motivational activities, field trips, and college tours are incorporated throughout the year.  We are proud to offer the AVID Elective in Grades 8-12--and excited to add AVID 7 in Fall 2023.

The AVID Elective student is a student with academic potential:

    • Average –to-high test scores
    • 2.0-3.5 GPA
    • College potential with support
    • Desire and Determination

Application Process

  • Students must be admitted into the AVID Elective Program in order to participate. The most critical factor to being successful in AVID is the student’s motivation and willingness to work hard in a supportive and nurturing environment.

Students must submit their application, including a writing sample, and participate in a personal interview in order to be considered for admission. Test scores (where available) as well as report cards will also be considered.

    Grades 9-12 Application Information:

Applications are due by December 6, 2024 for students looking to enroll in AVID 9 through AVID 12. Interviews will be scheduled once the application window closes.

    Grades 7-8 Application Information:

Applications for AVID 7 and AVID 8 will open later in the Spring.
